Heavy Metal Exposure and Detoxifying the Body at Ki Chi Healing Arts

Heavy Metals

Here at Ki Chi Healing Arts Center, in downtown Lee’s Summit, we recognize that simply through our day-to-do activities, we are exposed to dangerous levels of a variety of different toxins. Heavy metals comprise a large number of those toxins, including arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead and mercury.  The National Institutes of Health reports that these metallic elements are systemic toxicants for the human body and warn of the many health risks associated with exposure to them.

The good news is that our bodies are incredibly efficient at isolating heavy metals and other toxins, then eliminating them in due course.  However, over time, as in any system, there can develop a buildup of these harmful materials that can wreak havoc on the body.  Mercury is a heavy metal that is particularly common, and most people are exposed to chronic low levels of it. [1]

Implementing a heavy metal detox protocol can benefit the body tremendously and allow us to achieve and maintain safe levels of environmental toxins within our bodies. Quicksilver Scientific carries a comprehensive lineup of different products which allows clients to tailor their detox program to address their needs.

World Health Organization

The World Health Organization (WHO) has named mercury as one of the ten most dangerous toxins that our population comes into contact with.  The WHO warns that most people are chronically exposed to low levels of mercury throughout their lives.

Most commonly, people are exposed to mercury through dental amalgam and fish, but it is possible that air and water pollution also contribute to toxicity.   Once in the body, mercury can significantly damage the heart, kidneys, brain and other organs.  [2]

This is just one of the elements that can wreak havoc on our bodily systems, dramatically impacting the delicate balances that keep us in a healthy state.

Chelation Therapy

Chelation Therapy is the practice of introducing a chemical agent to the body which binds to heavy metals and other toxins and allows our body to remove the harmful element as we would any other waste material.   Chelation compounds are generally introduced to the body either orally or through IV fluid.  It is a type of therapy that did not come about until the 1950’s, when it was used to treat arsenic toxicity due to chemical warfare. [3]

Commonly used chelation chemicals include DMSA, DMPS and EDTA.  Though effective in their use, these chemicals come with side effects of their own; liver toxicity, mineral depletion, cognitive impairment and kidney function impairments.

At Ki Chi Healing Arts Center, we offer a variety of products for use in an oral chelation protocol.  Quicksilver Scientific provides a variety of chelation products, such as Clearway Cofactors, Ultrabinder and a whole line of liposomal supplements aimed at helping the body’s natural detoxification processes.

Natural Detox System

The body has its own detox system in place to rid the tissues of harmful substances, including heavy metals. Known as the glutathione supersystem. The central element to this supersystem is glutathione, which the body produces to bind to and eliminate metals such as mercury from our tissues.  This system also produces a number of critical enzymes and transporters that assist with the process.  [4] The supplements that we offer at Ki Chi Healing Arts Center are designed to work quickly and efficiently within this system, helping clients achieve immediate results.

Other popular methods of rapidly detoxifying the body are out there, including fasting, sweating, saunas and herbal cleanses.  Though effective, these methods also put stress on our systems and can have negative side effects.

At Ki Chi Healing Arts Center, our goal is to help our clients achieve and maintain optimal levels of health and well-being.  In addition to the Quicksilver Products mentioned above, we also carry an array of Nature’s Sunshine supplements, known for their purity and effectiveness.   We also offer Results RNA testing, which allows clients to reveal which environmental toxins are present in their bodies and address them accordingly.

Our body wraps, scrubs and infrared treatments are an additional approach to detoxifying the body. We use all-natural products to help open and drain the lymphatic system, reducing stress and balancing the other systems of the body.  Other services include more traditional massage therapy, facials and organic skin care, waxing and more!  Everything we do is aimed at helping our clients achieve greater health and a sense of well-being.
