Cupping is renowned for its ability to improve circulation, remove toxins, relieve pain, ease stress, fatigue, sinus congestion and lots of minor ailments. Cupping is the inverse of massage. Rather than applying pressure to muscles, the suction uses pressure to pull gently upward and is referred to as decompression.
What's the deal with the bruises? The circular marks are not bruises. They do NOT break open capillaries but bring blood flow to the surface of the skin. This is a normal part of the cupping process. They do not hurt and if done properly will feel rejuvenating, relaxing and even relieve muscle soreness and increase range of motion. Massage cupping uses the cups to glide across the muscles and this method does not leave marks. Stationary cupping will leave marks and will gradually fade depending on the individual and duration of the cups and can last from 3 days to a week.
